BellePaga wool balls are indeed high quality yarn balls. This is because Alpaca wool is known for its exceptional properties, such as its incomparable softness, its unique warmth (7 times warmer than sheep's wool) and its hypoallergenic properties. It is the only wool in the world with hypoallergenic properties. It is suitable for the most sensitive skins, including babies' skins. The absence of lanolin in our wool, its lightness, its natural anti-pilling properties and its many other properties make our yarns an exceptional quality product!

They are also very popular with knitters because they are easy to handle and do not fray. Once you have experienced knitting with Alpaca wool, you will never go back, that's guaranteed! No other wool will delight you as much as ours. Knit a beautiful jumper or fluffy accessories with this very soft and warm premium wool and enjoy them for many years to come!

Pure Alpaca Yarn

Our Alpaca wool yarns are made of natural fibres from the softest and warmest fibre of the animal, the Baby Alpaca. In fact, there are 2 different categories of Alpaca wool: Alpaca fibre and Baby Alpaca fibre. Baby Alpaca wool is finer (about 22.5 microns versus 29 microns) and does not necessarily come from young Alpacas, but from the first shearing of the animal which has a fine coat, or from areas where the fibre is finer on the animal. This is usually from the coat around the animal's shoulders, neck and rump. Our pure Baby Alpaca wool yarns are made of extremely soft, silky and shiny fibres like silk. This wool is so comfortable that it can be worn next to the skin. Baby Alpaca is considered the softest and most prestigious natural fibre in the world. It is rare and represents less than 10% of the total world production of Alpaca fibre.

Alpacas are close cousins to the llama and have been bred for thousands of years for their exceptional wool in the South American Andes.

In the past, Alpaca fibre was used to make clothes for royalty, hence the name 'wool of the gods'. There are two main breeds of Alpaca; the most well known is the Huacaya Alpaca. It has a dense, curly coat. The second one is the Suri Alpaca, it has a shinier, but less wavy hair that hangs down the body with a central part in the back.

Alpaca wool is naturally black, brown, white or grey and the different coloured fibres are often mixed together to avoid dyeing. Alpacas are shorn every year. After fleecing, the wool fibres are processed into yarn from which the wool can be woven. As it is labour intensive to produce, Alpaca wool is often mixed with other fibres, usually sheep's wool. But at BellePaga, all yarns are 100% Baby Alpaca wool! We only use the finest and softest fibres from the neck and chin of the animal.
Pure Alpaca wool is an excellent choice for children and adults prone to allergies, due to its hypoallergenic properties. This is due to the absence of lanolin in its fibres, one of the key characteristics of Alpaca.

Finally, the Alpaca wool balls are made in accordance to the core values of our brand. Namely, in a short circuit, in the country of origin of the wool, which is Peru. Not to mention the unrivalled quality and complete respect for the environment, the animals and the craftsmen who are paid a fair price for their work.
