Different breeds of Alpaca

There are two different breeds of Alpacas, the Huacayas and the Suris. They are distinguishable mainly by their fibre. Both species have a silky fleece with almost no hard fibre. As a result, both species of Alpaca produce a high quality fibre. The fur of the Suri Alpaca is very soft, silky and longer than the " classic " Huacaya Alpaca.

More than 95% of Alpacas are Huacayas. This means that Suri Alpacas do not even represent 5% of the world's Alpaca population. The Suri differs from the Huacaya because of its long, smooth fibre. Alpaca wool has an insulating power 7 times greater than sheep's wool. Its unequalled softness is close to cashmere wool. Alpaca wool protects you effectively from the cold, softly, without ever making you sweat thanks to its thermoregulatory properties. Its high insulating power allows you to wear lighter and more comfortable items while effectively protecting you from the cold. Alpaca wool has a high resistance and hardly pills. This means that your clothes and accessories will last longer than if they were made of another material. You can keep them in perfect condition for many years.

Treat your feet to Alpaca wool slippers. Even the coldest feet will love them! Our Alpaca slippers are soft, light and very warm. You won't want to leave them! Warmth and softness for the most sensitive and coldest feet. Perfect for anyone who suffers from the cold, the BellePaga slippers allow you to warm up your feet quickly.

More than just slippers, they are high quality, handmade by local craftsmen in the majestic mountains of the Andes. Whatever the weather, your feet will be able to breathe. You can wear them all year around! Add a pair of BellePaga slippers to your wardrobe, you won't be disappointed!

In addition, their hypoallergenic properties allow your feet to breathe. This prevents sweaty odours and moisture.

There are two different kinds of Alpaca fibre: Alpaca fibre and Baby Alpaca fibre. Baby Alpaca fibre is finer (approx. 23 microns maximum for Baby Alpaca compared to 29 microns for Alpaca fibre) and does not necessarily come from young Alpacas, but from the first shearing of the animal which has a finer coat than in future regrowth. Our wool is so comfortable that it can be worn next to the skin. Baby Alpaca is considered to be the softest and most prestigious natural fibre in the world. It is rare and represents less than 10% of the total world production of Alpaca fibre.

Baby Alpaca wool

Baby Alpaca is a high quality fibre, which we have selected for you in all the articles in our shop. It is incredibly light, odourless (unlike other wools), pleasant to wear and respects the most sensitive skins thanks to its hypoallergenic properties. Alpaca wool has 7 times the insulating power of sheep's wool. Its unequalled softness is close to that of cashmere wool. This wool protects you effectively from the cold, while remaining soft. The insulating power of alpaca wool allows you to wear light and comfortable clothes while protecting you from the cold. Alpaca fibre is hardwearing and hardly ever pills. This allows you to keep your Alpaca wool clothes and accessories for many years.

Finally, our men's Alpaca slippers are made in accordance with the BellePaga brand values. Our products are all locally made: they are exclusively manufactured in Peru, where our Alpacas live in their natural environment. We design our products with unparalleled quality. In fact, we take care of perfectionism in the finishing of our products, which is done by hand, as well as in the best quality of material. The Alpacas we work with live in total freedom. What could be better than nature to offer us the most beautiful things?

Respect for the animals and the environment is also our priority. We have chosen the Alpaca not only for its many virtues, but also because it is the most eco-responsible "wool" animal. Compared to sheep, you will discover that the Alpaca does not pull up the grass while grazing but cuts it. This allows for rapid regrowth, as well as not damaging the pasture with its two claws, whereas the sheep has hooves.
