How is artificial intelligence influencing the fashion world?

Today, we are very keen to share with you an exciting trend that is gaining momentum in our society.

As you know, AI is increasingly being used in many areas of everyday life. AI is spreading like wildfire in many sectors, not least in the fashion industry!

Let's note that AI was already present in the sales sector, for example, sites selling glasses that already offered the possibility of testing them online by being equipped only with our frontal camera or even sites selling jewellery that also allowed customers to do a pre-test.

Several things have happened in the last few days and we couldn't resist sharing them with our loyal readers. In this blog post, we will talk about La Redoute, Zalando and the first ever IA Fashion Week. We at Bellepaga couldn't pass up this topic.

The online shopping revolution

Zalando, one of Europe's leading fashion and lifestyle platforms, recently launched a virtual online fitting pilot as part of its Size&Fit programme. Customers are able to create a 3D avatar to find a pair of jeans in their size from a range of 22 preset models. However, it should be noted that the avatars are constructed based solely on limited information such as weight, height and gender (currently only female or male), which may not represent all body types.

Despite this, a thermal visualization is available to indicate which areas of the jeans are fitted or wider on the avatar, which may be useful for customers who are familiar with their own bodies.

While these advances are seen as the beginnings of a revolution in online virtual fitting, there is still a lot of potential to be explored to improve accuracy and representation of different body types.

It is also worth noting that AI is constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated, so there is still a lot of potential to explore!

Reinventing ready-to-wear with technology

La Redoute, a leading fashion and home e-commerce company, plans to roll out a pilot project this year in partnership with Veesual, an artificial intelligence company that creates virtual fitting experiences for fashion e-commerce, which relies on the use of artificial intelligence to allow customers to discover fashion collections in innovative ways.

Through this initiative, customers will be able to create looks by mixing and matching clothes on different mannequins representing a variety of body types. The aim of this approach is double : to improve sales conversion by offering better size matching, while also highlighting La Redoute's commitment to inclusivity by offering a fashion experience accessible to different body types.

When AI creates the fashion of the future

Have you heard about AI Fashion Week in New York? It's a brand new fashion event that took place in April at Spring Studios, where emerging designers collaborated with artificial intelligence to present their digital fashion collections. This event was organised by the House of Meta, this fashion week is off the beaten track with a unique concept.

The competition takes place in two exciting stages. First, the public could vote for their favourite designer from the collections displayed in digital form. Then, the top 10 designers had the chance to present their designs to a jury of fashion industry personalities, including representatives from adidas, Vogue Japan and Revolve. The three winners will then have the opportunity to collaborate with Revolve to launch their own brand, develop their collection and sell their products on their e-commerce site.

The great thing about AI Fashion Week is that artificial intelligence is not there to replace designers, but to help them stand out. As Nima Abbasi, partner at Maison Meta, said, the aim is to democratise creativity by using AI tools to allow the most imaginative designers to explore new horizons without the need for teams or specialist education. This is an incredible opportunity to give voice to creative talent and push the boundaries of what a fashion collection could be. We can't wait to see the results of this exciting fusion between fashion and AI!
